Before the cold weather hits, check for recalls on your vehicle. Make sure your vehicle is safe to drive in the winter by visiting the NHTSA’s website and looking up recalls. If your vehicle has a part that made the list in the past 15 years, take your vehicle to your local service garage for maintenance.

If your vehicle does not have any parts on this list, you should still consider visiting a service garage for routine service. Have an oil change performed, as well as a tire rotation before the first snow of the season. Speaking of tires, you may want to check your tires for low pressure. If your tires are consistently low on pressure, you may need to replace them. Consider snow tires if you live in a notably cold climate for the safest driving conditions possible.

Have you replaced your windshield wipers recently? If not, you may want to install new wipers for your vehicle. Windshield wipers can make all the difference on snowy, icy, and cold days.

It is important to maintain proper fluid levels throughout the winter months. Flush and refill your vehicle’s coolant system, top off the windshield washer fluid, opt for high-quality de-icer fluids, and consider having some extra fluids on hand for those days when you’re running low.
