On the surface, the 2016 Honda CR-V may appear quite similar to the 2017 version, but don’t let those appearances deceive you. There is a whole lot of goodies offered in the 2017 CR-V. Let’s take a look at the newest version of this great compact crossover.

Brooklyn Honda CR-V

First, let’s review the engines. The base engine is the same as 2016 using a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder. But here’s where it gets interesting. Honda now offers a 1.5 liter turbocharged engine developing 190 horsepower. Okay, that is only six more than the base engine. The torque range starts as low as 2000 rpm. This lower RPM range lets you enjoy the torque without the high RPM whine that can develop with smaller engines. This engine, combined with a continuously variable transmission, is used in all trims except the base LX. Both engines are offered with ECO Assist to improve mileage, and AWD is available for any model trim. Honda has also added standard active grille shutters that open to cool the engine at lower speeds and close at higher speeds for better aerodynamics and fuel efficiency.

Size matters, and the 2017 CR-V is 1.4 inches wider and taller than its predecessor. This should equate to a bit more room inside, which is always a good thing. Honda has improved the quality of the interior materials, opting for a premium look and feel in the higher model trims. There is a 7-inch color infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple Car Play this year for those wishing to connect their mobile phones to the system.

Additional goodies for 2017 in higher model trims include advanced safety features including forward collision warning with automatic braking and blind-spot warning. The higher trims have available adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance.
